Dear
______________________,
I am honored that you have come to me with your questions.
Your decision to "not be into
religion, and ...just
believe in the living Creator," is, in my opinion, Wise.
I have found
that the more religious a person or group becomes, the less Spiritual
they become.
Obviously, I too am committed to Interfaith Ministry for reasons
similar to some of your own. I study as many Religions and Spiritual
Paths as possible to both gain a better understanding of
God / Goddess / Universal Deity and also to enable myself to minister
to as
many people from as many differing backgrounds as possible. Interfaith
peace is incredibly important to me and became a personal passion and
quest many years ago.
In my experience, when you study any Spiritual issue, topic, approach,
ritual, doctrine, belief system, etc., and you give it proper time and
attention through meditation and prayer, consulting with others and
etc., and still end up feeling that "something is off" well, then for
you, something is indeed off.
This uncomfortable feeling is the Spirit within you letting you know
that this particular thing is not the best fit for you. However,
this is not to say that it is "wrong" or "bad" or that it is not the
perfect fit for someone else.
I believe that one of our
biggest mistakes as humans is to try and "put God in a box." It
cannot be done. First of all, we can not expect our limited
minds to
begin to grasp what is the Completeness of Universal Deity. It's
preposterous! If this were not the case, if "God" was easy to
comprehend, well, then "God"
wouldn't really be much of a "God" after all.
It is each person's
right and responsibility to find their own individual Path. It
is also one of our Highest callings as humans, to respect and support
these rights without letting
this confuse or invalidate us as we walk our own Path.
All Religions and Paths are but
attempts to understand and
connect with Universal Deity. All have value but none are perfect nor
complete. Neither are their priests, priestesses, rituals, analogies,
allegory, myths, legends, scriptures, followers, depiction, etc.
There are common threads and
Universal Truths which can be found among
all Religions and Paths. The Character of Universal Deity is revealed
within and
through these things and they are, what I call "God's Fingerprints" -
the personality of Universal Deity, shining through. If we look with
our Spirits, as we study all Paths and experience life, we will see
evidence of
Universal Deity reaching out in love toward It's creation in both
universal ways and completely individual ones. This to me is the
greatest evidence of a Universal Power and a beautiful Truth that
brings much joy.
Deity is everywhere, yet nowhere. It is Universal, yet completely
individual.
Just as it was
intended.
Relationship
with Deity was never meant to be a
one-size-fits-all, thing. The Creator comes to each person in the way
that is right for them,
exactly where they are, as they are, and this can be through any and
all
Paths or none of them. It is completely individual because we are all
individuals and we were given thinking minds, personalities,
experiences which shape us, souls, Spirits, races, nationalities,
gender, and a specific time and place in time and space.
The process of finding the
personal Path is one that for some is
simple. Perhaps they find it within the Religion
or Path in which they were brought up. Others are seekers and may try
several religions or systems of belief
before they find one that fits for them. Some choose to believe that
there is no Universal Deity at all. Still others will try as many
approaches as possible and combine bits of all of
these.
When these sorts of Spiritual crises occur as we walk our Path, we can
stop, ask our Creator for Guidance and listen to our Spirit. We can
also remind ourselves of some important Truths:
~ Universal Deity is not something we can fully
grasp, nor are we meant
to.
~ We are, each of us, an individual and we each have
a Spirit within us, a part of our Creator, that Guides and Assists
us along our
unique Path.
~ We can
rest in the Truth that we each have our own personal, real, and
valid relationship with Deity.
~ Spiritual or
Religious
unity does not mean nor does it require unanimity.
~ We
can continue to strive for
Interfaith peace while maintaining our Spiritual individuality.
When we feel solid again, we get up and carry on.
Your Spirit knows its Way, even
when
your human mind experiences turmoil. This is trustworthy. Look no
further than your own closing
words in your letter to me for proof of this fact: "Religion
does
not seem to offer a complete answer to my questions. Only my own heart
and soul, and conscience do. "
So, enjoy your Journey my friend, keep seeking, keep striving for
Interfaith peace and trust that
you are exactly where you are meant to be.
Light, Love and Peace to You,
~ Jordyn
