Hi Jordyn, I have had a
recurring dream (same subject - different situations) but they are
always about an airplane crashing and I'm running from it or that I am
on a
plane going somewhere but am ridiculously scared the entire time that
it could crash. It doesn't. Like I said, in the dreams about the
plane crashing, I'm never on the airplane, just running from it. Does this have
any significance to anything? I have had quite a few. Thank you for
your time!
Dear ______________________,
Thank you for sending your question.
One of the most fascinating things about dreams, to me, is that they
are such a wonderful introduction to our own inner symbolism library.
Each person's inner symbolism is unique to them, and, at the same time,
symbols share a sort of universal language. Based on these things,
dreams can teach us a lot about ourselves, how our subconscious
communicates with us, and how to be better in tune with our own Inner
Guidance.
While it is impossible to give you a thorough analysis without the
specifics of your life and circumstances surrounding the dreams and/or
without a complete reading, I believe we can look at the most common
aspects and uncover the broader meaning of your recurring dreams.
A recurring dream is a message to us. Usually the dream will continue
until the message is received or the "lesson learned." The more
frequent and/or intense the dream, the more urgent the message.
Let's look at some of the main aspects of your dream...
Running Away - This almost always symbolizes a strong desire to avoid
something one views as negative or threatening. It can also, in
its simplest form, represent a strong resistance to change.
Airplanes / Planes - Usually represent desires, freedom, distance,
and/or can
specifically represent a dominant male in the life of the
dreamer. Because the plane is almost always being piloted by
another person, they also represent helplessness, feelings of not being
in control. Helplessness is a particularly common meaning when the
dreamer witnesses the airplane crash without being a passenger.
This
would also be true of being a passenger on the plane while fearing that
it will crash.
Crashes/Accidents - Again, witnessing crashes and accidents, especially
in the case of things falling from above us, most commonly symbolizes
feelings of helplessness, victimization, feelings of not being in
control.
In your dream, when the airplane does crash, you are never on it,
instead,
you're running from it. When you are a passenger on the plane, you
worry intensely that it will crash, but it never does. These things are
probably the most telling aspects of your particular dream. In both
cases you avoid the impending disaster. You survive, either by your own
efforts (running) or because the thing you're fearing simply never
manifests. Your dream is pointing the way to victory over the thing/s
you are fearing in your life.
You are most likely prone to worrying and resist changes in general,
preferring that things remain steady, reliable and predictable. When
things seem "off course," you become anxious. Your subconscious is
letting you know that you have more power than you might think in your
life and your anxiety is robbing you of that power. Anxiety prevents us
from seeing the ways in which we can empower ourselves.
I would suggest that you start by examining the events and
circumstances in your life when you have the dream. What common factors
are present at the time the dream occurs? This will show you what
you're fearing, what in particular, is stirring your anxiety at the
time the dream occurs.
Then spend some time in meditation and/or prayer seeking Guidance to
help you discover the areas in which you do have power and the things
you can do to meet your needs through the changes of life and to enable
you to develop a sense of security within yourself. When you develop
this sort of inner security and stop relying upon external situations
and/or people to meet your need for security, you are empowered and
anxiety loses it's grip on you. You are free to accept the changes life
brings your way without fear and you can focus on the positives,
embracing the good things that come about as a result of change.
While I understand that the dreams are troubling to your conscious
mind, their intention is to Guide you to a better, happier, and more
peaceful life.
I hope this helps to provide you with some insight. Thank you again for
your question.
